HEAD OF THE HOUSE
Dominique Zonyeé
Hi, I'm Dominique Zonyeé, Head of the House at Apartment 1A. My brand journey began in Harlem, N.Y.C., in a first-floor apartment, #1A.
If I hadn't majored in journalism, I would have studied linguistics. I love language and words, and I appreciate how we use storytelling to convey deeper meanings and forge connections.
As fate would have it, I started my undergraduate journey at the illustrious Hampton University and finished with a Bachelor of Arts from CUNY. I worked as a digital journalist for outlets like AOL's Patch.com, where I helped launch microsites in various towns and cities, I wrote for Harlem's Amsterdam News, and several other publications. I later commemorated my academic studies with a Master of Arts in multimedia from New York University.
I spent over a decade reporting and writing in entertainment, as well as national and local digital news. The news industry was precarious, and digital media was trending toward clickbait, so I transitioned to copywriting, which opened up new avenues in marketing. I became intrigued by how I could leverage my journalistic skills in the brand marketing and advertising space.
My career took off because I wasn't afraid to learn, wear many hats, and put my abilities to the test. I embraced failure as a learning opportunity. I wrote product narratives, developed social media strategies and copy, created thought leadership articles, launched blogs, and crafted advertising strategies and copy for major campaigns.
Finally, in 2019, I took a leap of faith and launched Apartment 1A. I collaborated with designers, graphic artists, and developers to help establish my first clients' businesses, focusing on brand strategy, website creation, social launches, and more. While I still have a passion for UX design and development, I now concentrate on providing strategy, insights, and storytelling to brands and businesses that want to grow with consumers and recognize the importance of multicultural buying power.
I am passionate, agile, and God-loving, and I genuinely enjoy seeing brands and the people who love them succeed. As a journalist and strategist, inspiration strikes me continuously, and I'm always researching. When I’m not working on a specific Apartment 1A project, I enjoy hitting the gym, engaging in creative writing and working on TV scripts, reading new books, traveling, and spending quality time with my family and loved ones.
